OneAmerica advances the fundamental principles of democracy and justice at the local, state, and national levels by building power within immigrant communities in collaboration with key allies.
OneAmerica envisions a peaceful world where every person’s human rights and dignity are respected, where communities appreciate differences and stand together for justice and equality, and where each person contributes to the common good.
Justice. Ensuring equal access to power and opportunity, supporting and defending the rights of all people and eliminating discrimination and oppression. We work for justice for people of every race, religion, language, immigration status, and sexual orientation.
Courage. Standing up to power, speaking truth, challenging injustice, and acting with conviction and integrity.
Respect. Listening to, acknowledging, and valuing multiple perspectives and positions, and fostering understanding and empathy through dialogue.
Collaboration. Providing opportunities for diverse groups to come together, be heard, and take collective action.
Accountability. Adhering to our mission, vision, and values in an approachable, inclusive, and transparent way.
OneAmerica® was founded immediately after September 11, 2001 to address the backlash, hate crimes, and discrimination against immigrant communities of color, primarily Muslims, Arab Americans, East Africans, and South Asians.
Initially named Hate Free Zone, OneAmerica expanded into the largest immigrant advocacy organization in Washington State, organizing in and advocating for and with diverse immigrant communities including Latino, African, and Asian. OneAmerica also plays an active and leading role in national and state coalitions working on immigrant rights, education, economic and environmental justice, voting rights, and immigrant integration.
OneAmerica works to change the limits of what is possible and all our staff are grounded in the belief that anything is possible if we organize and advocate together.
