Our liberation is tied to one another. When Black communities suffer – we all suffer.
In a country built by white supremacy, racism and anti-blackness, we have hit another tipping point in history. We have witnessed the death of one too many Black men and women at the hands of those meant to protect us. We can no longer wait for justice to come, we must demand it.
OneAmerica stands with Black communities. Justice must be met for the murderers of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Manuel Ellis and every other life lost due to police brutality. Our hearts ache and anger has cemented itself more deeply within many of our immigrant communities. But we cannot be stagnant. We must rise up. This anger must be fueled to create lasting systemic change.
It is the duty of non-Black folks to look within ourselves and understand the anti-blackness that has flourished for generations within many of our communities- dividing us. We must rip the root out, and dismantle these systems to stand in true unity with our Black neighbors, friends, family and communities.
Our work at OneAmerica has been, and always will be, justice for all. We condemn the violence and dehumanization of Black communities and we stand in fierce solidarity with Black communities across the country.
Today, we invite you to donate what you can to the following bail out funds and organizations that are at the forefront of this work:
- Black Lives Matter Seattle Freedom Fund – The funds collected will go to the immediate release of people protesting the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Manuel Ellis in Seattle/King County.
- Minnesota Freedom Fund – Minnesota based organization that pays criminal bail and immigration bonds for folks who have been arrested protesting police brutality.
- Reclaim the Block – Minnesota coalition that advocates for and invests in community-led safety initatives in Minneapolis neighborhoods.
- Black Visions Collective – A Black, trans and queer-led organization committed to dismantling systems of oppression and violence, and shifting public narrative to create transformative, long-term change.
In the days to come, we are committed to taking a long-term look at how we can use our organizational and individual power in an actionable way, in a way that goes further than just words on a screen. We want to amplify and uplift the work of Black-led organizations and confront the deep rooted anti-Blackness in the systems we operate in.
It is time we all listen and take action.
