Budget Reconciliation Bill Fact Sheet

Trump’s budget bill is a full-blown assault on immigrant communities and all working people. It guts health care, rips away food and tax support from working families, and funnels billions into jails, border walls, and mass deportation. It weaponizes the government to tear families apart,  disappear our neighbors, and make fear a way of life.

What’s in Trump’s Anti-Immigration Budget:

Cuts to Childcare and Basic Needs

  • Over 2.6 million children, mostly U.S. citizens in mixed-status families, are denied the Child Tax Credit just because their parent’s immigration status
  • Most immigrants without a green card are barred from food assistance (SNAP) — including refugees, asylees, trafficking survivors, and TPS holders.
  • Immigrants without Social Security Numbers are cut off from college tax credits, punishing kids for their immigration status.

Destroys Health Care Access

  • Strips Medicaid from the most vulnerable legal immigrants including survivors of violence, refugees and those fleeing persecution.
  • Guts emergency care funding for undocumented folks by slashing federal support to hospitals that serve them.
  • Blocks most lawful immigrants from buying health insurance on the Affordable Care Act marketplace — denying care, even to those paying full price.
  • Denies low-income immigrants any pathway to healthcare by closing the only coverage options green card holders had if they don’t qualify for Medicaid.
  • Shuts immigrants out of Medicare, even after years of paying taxes, unless they have a green card.

Burdening Taxes and Fees

  • Imposes a cruel 1% tax on money sent abroad to family members.
  • Slaps immigrants with outrageous fees of up to $1,500 just to apply for work permits, asylum, or green cards.

Funds a Police State at the Border  and Beyond

  • $80 billion for walls, surveillance, and border militarization, funding fear and violence into immigrant communities
  • $45 billion to expand jails and family detention — 13 times more than ICE had last year. Now with no time limit on detaining kids.
  • $29.9 billion for ICE to raid homes, workplaces, schools, and disappear our neighbors
  • $3.5 billion for state and local anti-immigrant crackdowns, paying cities to help ICE do its dirty work.
  • Only 800 immigration judges funded, ensuring even longer delays and backlogs in the system.

Targets Children

  • Authorizes invasive body searches of unaccompanied kids in government custody, some as young as 12.
  • Empowers Customs and Border Patrol to forcibly return traumatized children to the very danger they fled.
  • Provides $300 million to dig into the lives of sponsors who open their homes to migrant children, deterring safe reunification.
