New year = renewed energy to build the thriving home we deserve!
In 2022, we launched Our Thriving Home platform – highlighting our vision of a world where immigrants and refugees can thrive. Together, we got commitments from candidates running for office to support our platform and then did the work to get them elected via our sister organization OneAmerica Votes.
Now, it’s time for our legislators to show up for us and champion key legislation for our communities.
Washington States’ legislative session begins on January 9th and we hope you’re ready to take action, share your stories, and demand more with us.
This legislative session, we will be fighting for*:
- Access to unemployment benefits for excluded immigrant workers, regardless of immigration status (HB 1095 Rep. Walen / SB 5109 Sen. Saldaña)
- Expanding and permanently funding dual language learning programs so our languages are celebrated in schools (Bill number coming!)
- Expanding the Washington Voting Rights Act to reduce racism and bias in our election system and expand opportunity (HB 1048 Rep. Mena/SB 5047 Sen. Saldaña)
- A budget centered on immigrant justice that includes: increased funding for our Washington New Americans Citizenship program, funding for early learning providers and programs, funding for legal defense for immigrants, and more!
It’s going to take all of us to create a thriving home for our communities. Are you ready to take action with us?
Join our Action Takers email list today to receive communications on the status of our fights, for opportunities to take action and more!
We have historically won pivotal programs during legislative session but only by coming together and ensuring our voices are heard in the halls of Olympia. We look forward to working with you to win what our immigrant communities need to thrive.
*This is not a complete list of all the policies OneAmerica supports this legislative session. We will also be supporting others such as increasing childcare provider pay, the Wealth Tax, Working Families Tax Credit Implementation, Health Equity for Immigrants, and more.
